Fujitsu Ten’s compact 3-D electronic scan millimeter-wave radar for automotive applications uses 77 GHz to detect an object in three dimensions, including elevation, distance, and azimuth range. By sensing three dimensions, the device can detect, for example, signs located above or falling objects over the road more reliably. Through the advanced signal processing technology, which was jointly developed with Fujitsu Laboratories, and the design of the antenna for transmitting and receiving radio waves, Fujitsu Ten’s palm-sized device is as large as the size of the company’s latest 2-D electronic scan millimeter-wave radar. Slated for delivery to automobile manufacturers for 2014, the Fujitsu Ten device can be mounted in a wide range of vehicles from large to small sized.
