Multi-Angle Vision™ Full-Perimeter Monitoring System
What is Multi-Angle Vision™?
Four video feeds from cameras mounted on the front, rear, and right- and left-side mirrors are processed at high speeds. The synthesized video shows the vehicle and its surroundings from the air, helping drivers to drive safely and confidently.
In recent years, hopes of a system able to support safe driving by checking a vehicle's surroundings have increased. FUJITSU TEN, in collaboration with Fujitsu Laboratories Ltd.(*3), has developed Multi-Angle Vision™, the world's first peripheral monitoring system for supporting safe driving through displaying a three-dimensional bird's-eye view from various perspectives around the vehicle. Images taken from four cameras attached to the front, rear, left and right mirrors of the vehicle are captured and combined. The result is a three-dimensional bird's-eye view taken from the various perspectives around the vehicle. Safe driving is supported by assisting driver visibility over a wide range of instances, including when reversing the vehicle in parking situations or when making right or left turns at intersections with poor visibility.
Main Features
With Multi-Angle Vision™, drivers can view a vehicle's surroundings from a wider range of viewpoints than what is offered by conventional vehicle-mounted camera products, contributing to safer driving.
The opening display appears when the engine starts up, showing a three-dimensional video to aid in viewing a vehicle's surroundings.
When turning, this screen allows drivers to see the blind spots to the left, right, and rear of the vehicle. For example, drivers can check farther to the left or right when leaving a parking area. When turning, drivers can also verify the turning radius of a vehicle's inner and outer rear wheels.
Drivers can switch between three selected viewpoints. When parking, passing through narrow streets or pulling over, drivers can select the viewpoint they want at the push of a button.
Safety and convenience in the following situations:
Multi-Angle Vision™ contributes to safe driving at intersections with poor visibility, in narrow streets, when parking (backing up, parallel), when side mirrors are stowed away, etc.
Safety and convenience in the following situations:
In recent years, there have been increasingly high hopes that systems allowing verification of a vehicle's surroundings will contribute to safer driving. In April 2009, a dedicated organization was established within FUJITSU TEN to strengthen the ITS (*4) business area in the context of our ongoing efforts to develop sensor-based technologies incorporating cameras, “Millimeter Wave Radar,” and so on. This organization was established also to accelerate the commercial application of automotive products utilizing ICT (*5). Multi-Angle Vision™ represents one of our first endeavors in the field. With this product, through the combination of Fujitsu Laboratories image processing technology, Fujitsu Semiconductor Limited (*6) vehicle-mounted image processing LSI technology, and FUJITSU TEN's vehicle-mounted HMI (*7) technology and automotive-adaptation technology, we have achieved an unprecedented system that allows drivers to drive more safely by viewing the environment surrounding a vehicle. In the future, we will further strengthen ties within the Fujitsu Group in order to apply ICT to the automotive sector, developing next-generation vehicle-mounted devices under the three themes of “linking cars with society,” “linking cars with people,” and “linking cars with other cars and cars with infrastructure.”
